What our customers are saying
He explained all the tests before he performed them so I knew what to expect.
He made the experience, which could be somewhat daunting , when you have no idea what to expect.
He also asked me throughout how was I doing which I found comforting.
So all in all a good experience which was made totally by Mr Drypen being so forthcoming.
Thanks Mr A Drypen 😃 👍
It was very pleasing to know these tests will determine what is going on and what has been overlooked for years.
Highly recommend
Frequently asked questions
Anyone can have a hearing test from the age of 3. Children often have their ears and hearing assessed due to mild ear infections and “glue ears”, and to establish the true performance of their hearing system. For young adults, hearing tests may be necessary for work-related purposes, sports, and noise-related activities. People in certain professions undergo regular hearing tests before getting custom hearing protection devices.
For those over the age of 55, hearing tests are necessary to establish a baseline of their hearing and to monitor any deterioration due to age, noise-exposure, and any hereditary component. Those with difficulties hearing conversation in background noisy or in groups of people may wish to consider the use of latest digital hearing aids, in which case having a hearing test is even more important.
During the hearing test appointment, we will take your hearing health history, as well as any relevant medical history that will give us the full picture of your hearing difficulties. The Audiologist will thoroughly examine your ears and explain any findings. If there is excess of earwax, this will be removed using microsuction. Occasionally the wax may be hard and stubborn, in which case you will be asked to use olive oil to soften it.
During the hearing test we will play you a variety of beeps and tones via a set of headphones and will ask you to press a button whenever you hear them. This gives us an idea of the quietest sounds that you can hearing at different frequencies (pitches). The test results will be plotted on a hearing graph (also called an audiogram) and explained to you in detail.
The results will determine whether you have a medical condition causing the hearing loss, or whether it is due to natural deterioration with age. If there is a medical reason for the hearing loss, we may run additional tests and refer you to your GP or an ENT specialist. If the cause of your hearing loss and hearing difficulties is due to age, then a set of latest digital hearing aids will be prescribed with your consent.
There are so many different hearing aids available privately. The choice is yours – choose whatever colour or size you want, whether it should be rechargeable and with a Bluetooth, or whether it’s custom made for your ears! There are also hearing aids to suit every lifestyle and severity of the hearing loss. So how do you choose the right hearing aid that will work best for you?
The answer is simple – find an independent Audiologist that can guide you through the process and make it very simple to understand. We can source any hearing aid model from any manufacturer or recommend the most suitable one. All our hearing aid packages include lifetime aftercare for a complete piece of mind. If you are not sure about what would work best for you, we offer a free 2 week trial!
Balance tests assess the function of the human balance system, which consist of brainstem, inner ears, eyes and proprioception (muscles and nerve endings in your legs and feet). When all of these are working together in harmony, we feel well and steady on our feet. However, if one of the organs goes wrong, we may experience vertigo, dizziness, and problems with balance. The most common cause of balance disturbance and particularly vertigo, is a dysfunction of the inner ear. Some of the causes include viruses or infections of the inner ear (vestibular neuritis, labyrinthitis), head/neck trauma, age, Meniere’s Disease, and several other medical conditions.
As a rule of thumb, balance tests include comprehensive hearing and ear history taking to understand the symptoms and signs of dizziness. This is followed by a detailed ear examination and a comprehensive hearing test. We then perform a battery of vestibular function tests, which focus on the connections between the brain, the inner ears, and the eyes. These include a variety of electrode recordings, eye movement, and repositioning manoeuvres on a clinical couch. For more information, please visit our balance page here.
The results of the balance tests help identify where the balance disturbance is coming from and helps us design a set of balance rehabilitation exercises.
